We will dig deep into this history by visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site &#8220;Zollverein coal mine&#8221; (&#8220;Zeche Zollverein&#8221; in German) with a guided tour. This is one of the largest and most beautiful coal mines in Europe, constructed at the beginning of the 20th century. After the mining stopped in 1986, the vast part of the buildings was preserved as a heritage site. It was recognized by UNESCO in 2001 as a World Heritage Site. More information about the Zollverein mine can be found on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zollverein.de\/zollverein-unesco-world-heritage-site\/\">Website<\/a> or in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zollverein_Coal_Mine_Industrial_Complex\">Wikipedia<\/a>. What could be more natural than to revive old LHCb traditions and organise a football tournament at the very heart of Dortmund? Sign up and bring your football shoes! We will combine the tournament with a 60 min stadium tour in the Signal Iduna Park. The Signal Iduna Park, also known as the famous Westfalenstadion, is the home of the BVB and renowned for its atmosphere. With a total capacity of more than 80,000 spectators, it is Germany\u2019s largest stadium and the 24,454 capacity S\u00fcdtrib\u00fcne (South Bank) is the largest terrace for standing spectators in European football. After the stadium tour, we recommend to recharge batteries and take dinner at Strobels, a restaurant directly next to the stadium, where we have reserved tables. Strobels offers a nice mixture of a classical German and a modern kitchen for affordable prices (not included in the package). To reach the city centre after dinner, you can take a walk through the so called Kreuzviertel with its many bars, clubs, pubs, and cafes. On our excursion we show how our region managed to rise like the phoenix from the ashes after the demise of this industry. In the 1970s Dortmund was Europe\u2019s capital of beer. For some years now, the typical Dortmund beer is brewed again by a local brewery on the former industrial site. First, we will visit the impressive disused blast furnace on a breathtaking skywalk under the guidance of an experienced guide. A special view over Dortmund is also guaranteed with an introduction to the industrial history of this region. Our second item on the programme is a tasting session in the halls of the young brewery. We remain on site, which has also developed to a culinary centre today. Delicacies of the Dortmund street food cuisine are offered there.
